2010 Census Road Tour to Stop in BCD Region
Transportation is central to every aspect of community life and directly affects every individual. BCDCOG staff has begun the process of updating the CHATS Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) for regional transportation improvements. A series of seven public hearings were held around the region and a community survey is now underway. You can participate by taking the survey either online or at any local library in the BCD Region. Have your voice heard today on how you would like to see the region spend money on transportation projects in the next 20 years! Click here for more information.

Regional Recognition The BCDCOG would like to congratulate the following jurisdictions for their recent awards:
- The Town of McClellanville's Tree Committee was awarded the SC Urban and Community Forestry Council's 2009 Golden Acorn Award for its "Outstanding Community Forestry Program". The award recognizes the Committee's "high level of commitment towards enhancing and maintaining the vitality of its urban forest." The Committee has been successful in achieving this goal through it's memorial tree planting program and educational seminars for residents. The BCDCOG recently assisted the Committee in mapping its inventory of approximately 700 public trees in the village.
- The City of North Charleston and The Sustainability Institute recieved the national Award of Excellence for Sustainable Community Development. The inaugural award, given by the Home Depot Foundation, recognizes a small city and a large city, along with nonprofit partners, for their commitment to creation of sustainable neighborhoods. North Charleston and Minneapolis both recieved $75,000. The $75,000 check will support the programs of The Sustainability Institute.
Congratulations to both municipalities for their great work and dedication. To submit information on awards, please click here. |
